FATE

I don't believe in signs, but I do believe in God's tender mercies. That as we make hard decisions, He gives us sweet gifts to help ease a burden. These gifts can be things like random acts of kindness, or a coincidence that makes a trial easier. Whatever it is, I know that they are given to us to help us in our time of need.

I also know that God has a sense of humor. Some days it is more apparent in my life than others, just look at some of these dating experiences. The task is to see the humor in it all.

I've been told that there isn't such a thing as a "soul mate."  As nice as it would be to have the cop-out of saying that I'm waiting for the "one," I know that each relationship has problems, and some rough edges. That no matter who I marry, if we are both striving to make things work, to grow and progress together, that I will be happy. That we will be happy. And that love, that true, pure love -a forgiving, evolving, patient love- can last, and I can find and have it.

It happened again!

Remember how I once told you I am like good luck chuck (minus the sleeping around!) Well, this time I didn't even get a chance to go out with this boy. I crushed on him, he asked me out, but I couldn't go (it was my date week, read here.) Then next time I talked to him, he was in a serious relationship with a girl.  And this past weekend, they got engaged.

As much as I'll admit I would like to have a big shinny ring on my left hand, I really REALLY would love a boyfriend. Isn't it my turn?! Why are all my options getting themselves hitched?! What? I enter the room and they throw themselves at any open girl? Seriously, where are all the eligible men hiding?

Love,
SEARCHING, for mr. right.

Single... with children.

Heaven bless all those single parents out there.
If being around children has taught me anything it is this: I NEVER WANT TO BE A SINGLE PARENT.

Not that I think anyone plans on that, but man kids can be exhausting!

So be prepared future husband: this is not a one woman show!

I was shocked when a suitor of mine told me that in his 27 years of life he has NEVER changed a baby's diaper!!!

BACK UP THE BUS!

You have some real life coming your way if we were to ever get serious. That's all I'm sayin....

Roses are red, violets are blue...

I have decided I LOVE flowers.

Lots of girls tell me that they don't like flowers because they eventually die.

But I still love them. I love how romantic they are.  They don't even have to come from a romantic point of view, but they are so idealistic.

I just love the sweetness of them.

I get such a joy from something so small.

JUST DATE ME ALREADY!

If you have EVER questioned, you now know that I HATE double HATE hanging out!

Why you may ask:

One: I don't want to hang out with your dufus friends. I want to get to know you not them, and if I wanted to get to know one of them better I would let them know.

Two: How do you expect me to ever get to know you?  What you want me to pop into the conversation and ask about your family?

Stupid Boy: "So I saw famous movie yesterday..."
Stupid Friend: "Really DUDE?! It was sick!"
Stupid Boy: "Totally dude! Remember this quote, and this quote, and this quote..."
Other Stupid Friend: "Quote quote quote quote."
Me to Stupid Boy: "so how many kids are in your family?...."

Yeah... not going to happen.

Three: When you just expect me to come over and "HANG OUT"  it makes me feel like a pile of poop. You like me, we've established that, but you don't want to pay your full attention to me, or seclude yourself with me...
WHY?  What?  You're afraid to get to know me?  Then I shouldn't be interested in you... What, you don't want people to think things? Guess what? We aren't 12 and it's ok to be seen with a girl.

So now you know when I stop hanging around it means that I'm done. Seriously no more of me chilling in the background to see if I can get some quality time with you because it's OVER. No more miss nice girl, you want me, come get me!

And you better hurry because the boy who was actually talking to me is pretty cute.

Help!

I have this problem called… ok, I don’t know what it is called.  But it happens every time a guy tells me his dad has passed on. It doesn’t matter who the guy is, or how his dad died, but as soon as I know the crush begins.
I just have a super soft spot for fatherless guys.  It’s as if when they tell me, I just want them to immediately whisk me away! I have even dated a few of this special breed of men. It seems to show their sensitive side in an upfront way that I love. I was just talking to a friend of mine and he told me he fits into this category, and then I couldn’t stop thinking about him all day!
Crazy I know, I must be sick, does anyone have a cure?

One month till heart day!

Remember this post, well everyone get out your umbrellas!!

I have that date tonight, and then a guy who I’ve been crushing on for over two years just asked me out!! Oh baby, oh baby!  He’s finally available and we are going out this next week, excited much?!

Things are looking up!

MoNEy VS LoVE

It’s the big show down, in one corner we have big MONEY and in the other true LOVE....

Where do YOU place your bets on the win?

One of my dear friends is engaged to the love of her life.  They have been dating since high school, and to add to the pot, he comes from a wealthy family.  This means that their dates include trips to high end restaurants, his family taking her to Hawaii, all while being madly in love.

Me, I would die to have one of those!

If I must wait forever for love please let him be wealthy, and if we are going to be poor as mice then at least don’t make me wait forever to find him.

But what will one win?

I’m hoping for love…

Surprise, Surprise!

I walked into my singles ward on Sunday and almost had a heart attack.  There in the back of the chapel, standing with his friends was this boy.  We’ll call him Chad.  As soon as I saw Chad my heart started pounding a mile a minute. I couldn’t figure out quite why since I had actually never talked to Chad.  I knew who he was, though I hadn’t seen him in years but I felt this strange connection.  As I sat down I was so bugged that I couldn’t figure out what my deal was… and then it hit me!  Chad looks just like a past heartthrob of mine, Will.

See??  Isn't the likeness shocking?

Will and I met through mutual friends. We never really dated, but we did talk a lot, and he even came down and visited me one time.   He was already done with school, and had he been around more I might have actually dated him. We had a great connection, but then with both of us moving, and a change of schools it just fell through the cracks…. And now he’s married.

So Sunday was a weird flashback, and brought up my past feelings for Will.  I’m glad that Chad wasn’t Will, because quite honestly I wouldn’t know what to say to Will if I did randomly see him.  Awkwardness avoided.

History Repeats

This is in direct correlation with my last post, but I thought I'd separate them a bit.

I had the same thing happen in high school. This is how my best friend and I both had the same boy for a first kiss. (Luckily I was the one who was HIS first kiss.)  We had just broken up and my best friend comes and "asks permission" to date him.  (Like I could even say no!)

In this situation, the relationship didn't last long. They dated for a short while, it was a classic high school relationship.

I guess I should take it as a compliment that my friends want to date my leftovers. I must be on the right track since they are great guys. Just I hope, one of these times the guy is great for me!

They're Married!

Congrats to my good girlfriend who got married this weekend.

I'm glad they ended up together, I really am.  Even though he was one of the ones I mentioned in this post. I moved out and I guess you could say she moved in, figuratively of course.

She called me about a month after I had moved and said that she liked him and they were going to start dating.  She was crying, and I know sincere that she didn't want to hurt me.  It wasn't like anything could have happened with me and him, since I had moved out of state. I of course gave my permission, and now they are married.

I realize now, how perfect they are for each other, and I do believe that if it was meant to work out for us it would have.

It's Raining Men!

When it rains it pours.  I have found that in the dating world it is either feast or famine.  I either have everyone setting me up, weekend after weekend of dates, or nothing, zero-zip.
Right now I am heading into a drought, but I still have some dates to catch you up on.
Pray for Rain!

Good Luck Chuck

I have this problem, or maybe it is a curse.  Like the movie, my last love encounters (no I don’t sleep around) have now all ended up married.  The last guy I kissed: married.  The last guy I held hands with: to be married next month.  I guess I am lucky that I date enough that there isn’t enough time between boys for my last date to already be hitched.

Now I don’t want to state the obvious, but yes, it IS about time I get kissed.  Problem is, I don’t kiss on a first date and no one has made it past that recently.

WANTED:
A knight in shining armor to make it past the towering first date, to kiss these frozen lips.
....and it would be an added bonus if he sticks around and doesn't get engaged shortly thereafter.

Love, Ava

Background Check

In a religious atmosphere that stresses marriage, 20 is the new 30 for singles.  If you aren't married by 25 you are deemed an "old maid" and every time you run into someone the first question they ask after "how are you" is "are you dating anyone?"  You can start to understand why I was frustrated after yet another bad date and decided to start this blog.

It has been said that chivalry is dead, but I hope that the art of dating is not being killed by the overuse of hanging out.  It has felt apparent to me that no one got around to telling these boys how to properly treat a girl on a date.  This is why at the end of each date post I will be putting a few pointers for any guys out there who might be committing the same crimes.

Some of my dates do deserve a pat on the back because not all of them have been total bombers.  In fact after quite a few of them I wondered why I didn't feel like it fit.  Blame it on the fact that I am picky, or that I have amazing brothers to compare them to.  The fact remains that they may be a great guys, but not great for me.

To protect myself, and my dates, I have decided to keep everything anonymous.  I am going to try and give my dates a celebrity look-alike name, and mix up the order of when I went on the dates.

I do hope you all enjoy, maybe pickup some date ideas, learn some things to avoid, and maybe get in a few laughs at the same time.   In the meantime I'll be here searching for Mr.Right.
Love,
Ava
